Michael Whalley

Since graduating from New Zealand Drama School, Michael Whalley has established a fine career in film, theatre and television in New Zealand and now Australia. Michael’s film credits include Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut feature Unbroken, John Maclean’s Slow West with Michael Fassbender and Ben Mendelsohn, the Michael Bennett directed drama Matariki, the crime/drama Out of the Blue and was recently seen in the thriller Backtrack alongside Adrien Brody and Sam Neill.

For the small screen, Michael has appeared in the critically acclaimed SBS drama The Principal, Nine Network’s much loved Love Child (Series 2), and Lippy Pictures’ three most recent telefeatures Pirates of the Airwaves, Field Punishment No.1 and Jean.

 He is most known Internationally for his character ‘Flynn’ in the US series Legend of the Seeker. Renowned for his fine theatre performances, Michael’s work onstage includes the award-winning Cock (Red Line Productions), Romeo and Juliet in the title role (Auckland Theatre Company), Tarantula (Tredwood Productions) and Te Karakia (Taki Rua Theatre Company).

Michael’s work in music theatre includes the lead in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (Hayes Theatre), An Officer and a Gentleman (Gordon Frost), The Threepenny Opera (Malthouse Theatre) and the lead ‘Troy Bolton’ in High School Musical (Wellington Musical Theatre). Michael has also performed in and co-devised Apollo 13, a multi award-winning interactive theatre piece, which has toured extensively in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
